Updated: May 2

A close up on hands; one set is taking notes while the other is gesturing

Mental health is a part of everyday life, and working toward true health and wellness is a lifelong journey. And we all have times when we need a little outside help and perspective. That's where therapists come in.

But it's not easy to get started. How do I even find counselors, let alone get regular care?

The best place to start is Psychology Today. They have a search tool right on the homepage to help you find the right kind of therapists near where you live. You can narrow the search by type of counseling or specific concerns, and whether they take your insurance or not.

Another great resource to get you started is actually your own medical insurance company. If you go to your insurance website, or into your app, or call, they can give you a list of in-network therapists that may be able to help you.

There are many reasons to chat with a therapists, big and small. Check out "Why Should I Go to Counseling?" if you want to learn more!
